ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The investigation of a shooting that Albuquerque Police say left a man dead closed all southbound lanes of I-25 at Jefferson for a brief time Saturday morning.

APD spokesperson Tanner Tixier said officers were dispatched to that area of town around 1 a.m., where they found Ross Romero, 28, "on the side of the road." He later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

No one is in custody, Tixier said, as police work to identify potential suspects. However, a pair of cars were taken by law enforcement so they can be searched later.

As of Sunday morning, police had still not identified a suspect or suspects. This is the city's 35th homicide this year.

A GoFundMe page has been established for the victim.

HOLIDAY TRAFFIC BACKUP

The brief lane closure led to frustration for some drivers trying to leave town for Memorial Day Weekend festivities, with many of them calling the situation "frustrating."

Headway was being made in only inches on the interstate as drivers said they were waiting as many as 45 minutes to get going once again.
