According to the Santa Fe National Forest, 41 campfires were abandoned during Memorial Day weekend last year, posing a tremendous threat to lives and property.

State and federal forest agencies are pleading with the public to be extra careful while in the great outdoors and just to be sure are implementing stage two fire restrictions which prohibit: camp and cooking fires, outdoor smoking, welding, chainsaw use, explosives and parking over vegetated areas.

Smokey Bear is even releasing a PSA warning about the dangers of parking over tall grass - a chilling reminder what we all have to lose.
