ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The 911 calls made moments after a bus crash, north of Bernalillo, paint a scary picture.

"There are people in the road that are hurt," one caller said.

Another caller reported "a bus flipped over... full of passengers"

One of those passengers was Javier Parra's grandmother.

"Probably the hardest thing is knowing my last conversation was for her not to leave and for her to stay here so I could take her out," Parra said.

Parra said he asked his grandmother to stay in Denver so they could celebrate her upcoming birthday, but she decided to get on the bus to visit family in El Paso.

Investigators say the bus, with 34 people on board, tried to avoid a crash on I-25 Sunday when it flipped and was sideswiped by a semi-truck.

It's that horrible sequence Parra is trying to make sense of while coping with his grandmother's death.

“Now I just gotta stay strong for my family and I gotta keep my head up,” Parra said.
