I-25 Studios benefitting from Netflix announcement

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— Business is good for I-25 Studios and the company’s CEO expects it to stay that way when Netflix moves to Albuquerque.

“My phone hasn't stopped ringing since the announcement was made a couple of weeks ago because everybody wants space,” said Rick Clemente.

He believes Netflix’s decision to come to New Mexico validates the state’s role in the film industry.

“Now we have a major studio hub, nationwide hub, in New Mexico. That's good for them, good for us, good for the whole state.

Clemente said each show employees about 300 people. He added that more studios mean more productions, which leads to more jobs.

“They're dying to get New Mexico people, first and foremost,” Clemente said.

Thursday night, the Albuquerque City Council is expected to vote on whether to give Netflix $4.5 million in incentives.
