ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – You don't have to travel far to find Old Glory blowing in the breeze in Albuquerque.

One West Side neighborhood said they have 86 homes in their subdivision, and more than half of them are proudly displaying flags.

This unified show of patriotism has a purpose. Grover Worsham, himself a veteran, came up with the idea. He and others flying the flag said they're not trying to make a political statement.

“We're showing support for our country. We're showing support for the people who fought for our country. We're showing support for the people who are protecting our country right now," Paula Willis said. "That's what my flag is flying for."

And they'll let them fly long after the holiday is over.

“We'll keep them up year-round to show that we're proud to be Americans," resident Peggy Biedermann said. "That's one things we have in common. This neighborhood is very diverse with age and color and religion and all kinds of things, but the one thing we have in common is being American. And we can show that connection this way and be proud that way."
