RIO RANCHO, N.M. - Intel announced plans Tuesday to hire more than 300 people as the company moves to support the state's manufacturing industry.
Officials say the new hires will include people currently living in state as well as those willing to relocate.
"The Rio Rancho site continues to be an important part of Intel’s global manufacturing network, and is manufacturing semiconductor products that are critical to Intel’s ability to secure, power and connect billions of devices and the infrastructure of the smart, connected world," said Intel Rio Rancho Site Manager, Katie Prouty.
The Rio Rancho plant currently employs about 1,200 people. At the end of 2018, the average annual compensation of Intel employees in New Mexico was $145,000, including salary, benefits and bonuses.
Rio Rancho Mayor Greggory Hull released the following statement in response to Intel's announcement.
“We are proud of our partnership with Intel and are excited that they are bringing even more high quality jobs to Rio Rancho. Job growth is essential to the strength and sustainability of a local economy. Intel’s latest announcement to add more jobs continues the trend over the past two years of increasing their Rio Rancho workforce and, as importantly, their capital spending here. It reaffirms their continued investment in and commitment to New Mexico and our community. Rio Rancho is not only a great place to live and work, but also a great place to do business. We welcome the new jobs coming into our community and thank our partner, Intel, for believing in the future of New Mexico. Our workforce is prepared for high tech jobs and Intel is a leader in the world’s economy because of their innovation and determination to make the best products right here in America. As a local government, we will continue to champion our small businesses, our tech leaders like Intel, and create more, better paying jobs for our Rio Rancho workforce.”
