51-year-old James Baldinger appeared in federal court in Duluth, Minnesota today after a federal grand jury in Albuquerque indicted him.

He was arrested in July of last year after police say a female inmate told authorities she was sexually assaulted by a male transport officer while being transported to Bernalillo from Kentucky. Investigators believe Baldinger assaulted the woman in Colorado and New Mexico before she was dropped off at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Bernalillo County.

At the time, he worked for PTS of America which is a contract company that transports inmates across the country.

Baldinger faces a maximum of life in prison and minimum mandatory five years for possession of a firearm.
