ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Albuquerque police have named two suspects in the shooting and killing of a man over the weekend. They are Jesse Bowers and Juan Diego Montoya. Both men are in custody and are expected to be booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center.
Police say the two were involved in the shooting death of Cody Fair on Saturday in front of a northwest Albuquerque laundromat. Officers were called to the area near 12th Street and Candelaria Road in regards to a shooting just after noon on Saturday. When officers arrived, they found Fair had been shot and had died at the scene.
A criminal complaint states Bowers and Montoya drove up in a Ford Escape and parked next to Fair’s car at the laundromat. According to a witness, Bowers and Fair had gotten into an argument earlier that day and Fair was upset that Bowers owed him $40.
A witness told police that when Fair attempted to reverse and leave the parking lot, shots rang out from the SUV, hitting and killing him.
The criminal complaint shows that the offenders attempted to destroy evidence. The Ford Escape was found in front of Cochiti Elementary School and had been burned. A mugshot of Montoya shows him with what looks to be serious burns on his face and head.
Bowers and Montoya face multiple charges, including first-degree murder.
