ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Officials with the Sandoval County Sheriff’s Office said the July 15 deadly bus crash was the result of four back-to-back crashes involving five separate vehicles.

Three people were killed and 31 people were transported to the hospital after the incident. Video from the scene shows first responders tending to dozens of people.

Authorities say it's still too early to know if anyone will face charges.

“After the investigation is complete and final report is compiled, it’s going to be forwarded to the 13th Judicial District Attorney’s Office in Bernalillo for review and criminal charges, if any, are appropriate,” said Lt. Keith Elder.

He says the final report will likely take about two months to complete.

Elder said authorities have not been able to interview the driver accused of causing the initial crash because he’s still hospitalized.

When asked if alcohol played a factor, Elder said the investigation is still ongoing.
