ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Nearly a third of the student population at the University of New Mexico struggles with food insecurity. A group of students developed a new app in hopes of changing that.

LoboEats alerts students when there is leftover food available from on-campus events, so they will not have to wonder where their next meal is coming from.

The team that developed the app recently won the $5,000 grand prize in the UNM/CNM Mobile App Contest. The technology is ready for android use and almost ready for iOS as well.

Once LoboEats is available in both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, it can only be used by students on UNM’s main campus. There are plans to eventually roll the app out to the UNM branch campuses across the state.
