Local libraries offer more than books

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Local libraries are offering a lot more than just books.
“We have a lot of really fun and interesting items for people to check out. You may not think of those sort of things at the library,” Linda Morgan Davis at the Albuquerque and Bernalillo County Public Library said.
But libraries these days may feel like a Home Goods Store.
“Another fun thing, and people are always amazed, cake pans! Very popular! Hello Kitty!” Davis said.
There are 40 different cake pans to choose from, and they're available at each branch, or by searching the online catalog.
“You have a 2-year-olds birthday party where Thomas the Train is the big item for the birthday celebration, that's the theme and then, you get this Wilton cake pan that costs between 25 and 40 dollars and then you never use it again. It goes to the back of your cupboard. So were here to help with that,” Davis said.
The catalog offers musical instruments as well.
“This is what your kit looks like. You get this box. Here's a bag, and inside is the ukulele,” Davis said.
The public can check out the instruments for up to three weeks.
Library card holders can also gain access to museums like, Explora. Davis said that it's all to keep up with the times.
“We want to be relevant and we want to help our community grow and be literate and provide cultural opportunities, so we want to grow with the community,” Davis said.
And with new unusual additions constantly being added, Davis said if you don't have a library card, there's no time like the present to get one.
“Easy, just come to any of our 18 branches and it’ll take you about 10 minutes,” Davis said
