ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Le Troquet, a French restaurant on Gold Ave. in downtown Albuquerque is booked for Valentine’s Day.

The owner and chef, Jean-Pierre Gozard said the holiday is “insane,” but in a good way.

"When it comes to Valentine's Day, we're extremely busy," he said. "We can expand 3 or 4 times this restaurant and sit all these folks two or three times over."

People started calling in for reservations a month out. Gozard said he’s had to put people on a wait list or say no. He explained how the romantic holiday can make or break his business.

It also makes up for any slow days during the year by bringing in almost double what a regular busy day would.

"For me, if I did not have that day it would be tough for sure. Valentine's Day is really crucial for business,” said Gozard.

However, a software company’s data analysis shows Valentine’s Day might not be the biggest money maker for all local restaurants in New Mexico this year.

According to Womply, Valentine’s Day is expected to be the 81st best day of the year for restaurants in the state. Foot traffic transactions at local restaurants could increase by 9% in New Mexico. In Albuquerque, it could be a 12% spike.

It’s still extra business for restaurants owners, but not a big increase compared to what is usually expected.

It is good news for last minute dining. Womply explained some people could possibly find a table at some of their local restaurants on Valentine’s Day.
