RIO RANCHO, N.M.— Michael Encinias was arrested on Thursday as a suspect in the murder of Dawn Sandoval.

Sandoval went missing on April 16th, and her burned body was found in a mesa on May 6th.

Her sister, Anita Sandoval, and son, Kevin Trujillo, said they knew Encinias was the one who killed Sandoval from day one. They say Encinias was married to Sandoval for 19-years before they divorced in February.

They said he was trying to work things out with Sandoval days before she went missing, and believe something went wrong.

Encinias was booked into the Sandoval County Detention Center on charges of Second Degree Murder and two counts of Tampering with Evidence.

“Emotions of sadness. Kind of relief, but mostly anger is what took over me,” said Anita about Encinias' arrest.

Encinias was once part of the family, and that’s why they want more than a life sentence.

Anita and Kevin want him to realize what he took from them.

“Because he knows what a big part of our family she was to us. He knows that we all needed her,” said Anita.

A date for Encinias' arraignment has not been scheduled.
