ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Andre Rodriguez, 19, has quite the story to tell after going to his friend’s house for a party in Cedar Crest.

He had his throat slit and was in danger of bleeding out.

“I knew my throat had just been cut,” Rodriguez said. “I saw my blood flying out like on the floor.”

Rodriguez said everyone was celebrating going back to college when Kyle Kifer attacked him.

“He was really drunk and mumbling and rambling about stuff,” Rodriguez said. “[He] came up behind me and had a knife and slit my throat.”

With a slashed external jugular, Rodriguez got into his car and started driving. Seemingly out of nowhere, he saw an ambulance.

“I honked my horn, drove up next to them and pulled down my window and that's when they actually went and pulled over,” Rodriguez said.

He was taken to UNM Hospital and the doctors called his parents.

“When we first got that call, we thought maybe it was a car accident. We never in our wildest imagination would have thought this would happen,” said Rodriguez’s mother.

Rodriguez is doing a lot better. He’s even going to return to college in Kentucky.

As for the suspect, he is being kept behind bars until trial. Prosecutors say he stabbed Rodriguez and another person who tried to defend Rodriguez.
