47-year-old Mario Alberto Castanada has been charged with an open count of murder.

Police say he stabbed 39-year-old Eric Trujillo several times on April 11. Trujillo told first responders that he was stabbed by a man named Mario. He died a day later at the hospital.

Homicide detectives were able to gain surveillance video from nearby businesses and gather tips from Crime Stoppers which helped them to identify Castanada as the offender.

According to police, Castanada had been arrested by State Police on an unrelated warrant for drugs and is now in custody at the Metro Detention Center.
