ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (Jen French)- People who live near the Sahara Motel say the visitors have overstayed their welcome. Neighbors complain that police are constantly called to the motel, on Gibson near San Pedro.

An evidentiary hearing is scheduled between the Sahara Motel and City of Albuquerque on Monday, June 25. The city feels the property should be temporarily closed due to excessive police calls. The only way for the owner to keep her motel open is to prove it’s not a danger to the public.

Neighbor Shannon Bouldin witnessed a SWAT standoff over Memorial Day weekend.

"Because it's just too much riff-raff,” Bouldin said. “We get burglaries all of the time, stolen cars, anytime someone is looking for their car that has been stolen, you can find it at the Sahara Motel."

Over the last two years, police have been called out more than 400 times for domestic violence calls, shootings, drug use and even deaths.

KOB-TV reached out to Xiao Ming Gong, the owner of Sahara Motel, and asked for an interview. Her attorney has not responded to our emails. A woman working at the front office declined to be interviewed.
