ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.—For eight years, has been a tool that allows parents to check out their child’s school’s performance. As part of the Every Student Succeeds Act, the New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) has provided the website to parents, but now, new features have been added.

"The new feature that provides for parents and families, is you can type in your zip code. You can type in your address and get a map of the 5, 10, 15, 20-mile radius so that you as a parent and family member can actually see all the choices, all of the options,’ said NMPED Secretary Ruszkowski.

The site also features 850 individualized videos. in English and Spanish, for all the schools in New Mexico, which can also be accessed through a cell phone.

Ruszkowski said the new interactive tools will give parents and families a chance to plan ahead when their child moves up in grade level.

For two years, NMPED officials visited different towns in New Mexico to research what parents and families want from schools.

NMPED Secretary Christopher Ruszkowski said about 80 percent of families want schools to continue to be graded.
