Governor Susana Martinez announced Wednesday that 35.4 million trips were taken in New Mexico in 2017. That’s breaks the 2016 record of 34.4 million visits.

“More and more people are discovering what we already know – New Mexico is the best place to visit. Our state’s culture, food and natural beauty is unmatched,” Governor Martinez said.

Martinez credits the New Mexico True brand for helping spread the message that our state is a place to vacation. She says another $1 million will be added to the $50 million budget to support the brand.

Martinez added that the spike in tourism is great for the state’s economy.

"1,700 leisure and hospitality jobs were added just last year. That is more than 17,000 new jobs in the industry over the last seven years, making the total number of New Mexicans employed in leisure and hospitality to more than 100,000 jobs in New Mexico," Martinez said.

Martinez says Santa Fe was the top travel destination in 2017.
