ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Albuquerque Police Department, Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office, and New Mexico State Police teamed up Thursday for a warrant roundup, and APD and NMSP engaged in proactive policing measures to spot stolen vehicles, arrest offenders and recover stolen property.

Having a larger number of officers working on the issue at once allowed them to approach it from multiple angles.

“Everything from the marked presence to initiate traffic stops to undercover detectives who can covertly follow stolen vehicles to motor units writing tickets,” said APD Lt. Josh Brown.

Within minutes, APD and New Mexico State Police found a stolen car, took four people inside the car into custody, and recovered property they believe was stolen.

“The law enforcement officers that conduct these operations live here, have families here, so not only are we keeping citizens safe, we're keeping our families safe,” Lt. Brown said.

State Police started its auto theft unit earlier this year and they now work with APD regularly to make busts.

“The people that get away today, based on how they flee or run, if we don't catch them today, we'll catch them tomorrow,” Lt. Brown said.
