ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- Final preparations are underway ahead of the 13th annual New Mexico Bowl.

More than 20,000 people are expected to watch Utah State take on North Texas at Dreamstyle Stadium Saturday.

Bowl officials believe this is going to be a game that fans will want to watch.

“The 19-5 record, your combined records is the best winning percentage of any of the other 33 bowl games,” said Jeff Siembieda, New Mexico Bowl executive director.

Siebieda said the bowl will benefit from both schools being driving distance from Albuquerque.

“Both of them have the ability to get here with pretty good ease,” Siembieda said. “Indications are they’ve sold a good number of tickets, so hotels are happy, restaurants are happy, our attractions are happy.”

Tania Armenta, who is the president of Visit Albuquerque, said the New Mexico Bowl always helps give the city a little boost during a time tourism is typically pretty low.

It generates around 3-point-5 million dollars each year.

“This place is special. It’s unique. It’s vibrant. The flavor is unlike anywhere,” Armenta said.

Gates open at 9 a.m. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m.
