ARABELA, N.M. - After five days, the Pine Lodge Fire continues to burn near Arabela, New Mexico.
It's consumed nearly 8,000 acres.
"Part of that increase in size though is also due to the preparation work, what we call burnout, which is designed to protect and also keep the fire from going north of Highway 246," said spokesman John Helmich,
More than 300 fire officials are fighting the fire, which is 0% contained.
People who live in the area still have access to their property. Helmich said no structures are threatened or have been lost since the initial three that were destroyed when the first started.
NM State Road 246 remains closed from Capitan to Roswell in addition to all trail systems and Forest Service Roads within the closure area. Click here for closure information.
