ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – An afternoon flight bound for Atlanta had to return to the Sunport after hitting a bird shortly after taking off Saturday.

The Delta plane landed safely before taxying back to the gate to be checked out. No one was injured and passengers were put on other flights.

According to officials at the Sunport, some of the engine's turbine blades were bent, and the remains of what was probably a hawk were found in an engine.

Officials say such incidents are "uncommon" at the Sunport.
