Police investigate death of 11-day-old at local detox center

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.—Albuquerque police are investigating the death of an 11-day-old child Wednesday.

According to police, the death happened at the Metropolitan Assessment & Treatment Services Center (MATS) near Zuni and San Pedro in southeast Albuquerque.

An official with MATS said the mother reported her newborn baby as unresponsive.

Crimes Against Children detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the child's death.

The mother was a client of the MATS Mariposa Program, which provides housing, medical services, case management, and drug rehabilitation services to pregnant/post-partum women and their infants.
