ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Detectives with the Albuquerque Police Department are investigating a homicide in northwest Albuquerque neighborhood.

Police say it appears someone shot into a woman's vehicle as she was preparing to go to a gym early Tuesday morning.

"After the shots were fired, people came out of their homes and saw a brown Cherokee flee the scene," said APD spokesperson Gilbert Gallegos. "It appears two males were in that Jeep Cherokee as they fled."

The victim was identified by her family as Jacque Vigil.  New Mexico State Police confirms that she is the mother of two of the department's officers.

People who live in the neighborhood near Unser and Ladera said they were shocked to hear about the homicide.

"I've lived here in this neighborhood for about 11 years, and we've never had problems," a woman said.

Police are asking anyone in the area with information about other robberies or break-ins to call 242-COPS.
