Police still looking into warehouse gunman's motive

November 14, 2018 05:19 PM

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— It only took 60 to 90 seconds for a man to shoot three of his co-workers before fleeing the Ben E. Keith warehouse Monday night, according to police.

Investigators are still trying to figure out what why Waid Melton went after people at his place of employment.

“Sometimes people leave journals or a manifest or notes to other people or even suicide-type goodbye notes that we might be able to get some more details and information from,” Albuquerque Police Chief Michel Geier.

Police recovered multiple firearms, ammunition and a small amount of drugs from Melton’s home Tuesday.

Investigators are expected to go through his vehicle Thursday.

APD detectives are also working on follow up interviews with witnesses and those who knew Melton.

Police said the three people Melton shot are still in the hospital. Detectives have spoken to two of them. The third victim was still unable to talk, according to police.
