ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The City of Albuquerque is in the midst of redesigning an intersection in the wake of the tragic death of a middle schooler.
12-year-old Justine Almuina was killed in March while walking in a crosswalk near Cleveland Middle School. The crosswalk goes across Louisiana Boulevard at Natalie Avenue.
The city is responding with a redesign that includes pedestrian accessibility improvements, vehicle access modifications and the installation of a High-Intensity Activated Cross Walk, otherwise known as HAWK.
City officials want the public to weigh in on the proposed improvements. A public meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 24 at 5:30 p.m. It will be held at Cleveland Middle School.
