RIO RANCHO, N.M.— Taliana Vargas is inspiring her community.
After the 10-year-old was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, she lost her hair.
The change didn’t go unnoticed in Taliana’s classroom.
One of her friends, Daniel Raju, walked into Santi’s Barber Shop in Rio Rancho and asked for his hair to be shaved off, just like Taliana’s.
“I just really wanted to shave my head for her,” Daniel said.
His mother said he was passionate about showing Taliana that she’s not alone.
“He goes well, ‘I have a friend,” he says and ‘she has cancer and I want to show her I support her and I stand behind what she's going through and let her know that it's not what you look like on the outside it's what you look like on the inside,’” Jessica Raju said.
The sentiment turned into much more after Daniel told his barber why he was shaving his head.
The two are teaming up to help Taliana and her family.
They have organized a fundraiser for Oct. 6.
The community has started donated raffle prizes and money.
“I'm donating my full day of cutting, my barbers are donating all their tips that day,” said barber Maurice Green, owner of Santi’s Barber Shop.
For people who can’t attend the fundraiser, the family has started a GoFundMe page to help with medical bills.
