ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – On Monday morning, the Rio Rancho Public Schools Board of Education voted 4-1 to approve arming security guards.

According to Mike Baker, Chief Operating Officer for RRPS, armed guards are estimated to be on campuses in “two to three months.”

RRPS Board President Ramon Montano voted against the long-discussed measure. He told the Rio Rancho Observer that he preferred waiting for POMS & Associates Insurance Brokers' “best practices standards for school security personnel” to align with RRPS’ decision.
