RIO RANCHO, N.M.- Sandoval County commissioners debated whether to approve a 10 percent raise for elected officials.

Supporters of the raise noted how much money elected official make compared to directors and other higher-ups within the county.

There was also the argument that elected officials hadn't gotten a raise in a while and another vote on raises couldn’t take place for four years.

However, opponents of the raise said money would be better served going toward public safety, like the sheriff’s office.

After hearing from both sides, three county commissioners voted against the raise, while one voted in favor and another abstained.
