ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- The woman accused of leaving five dogs to die in an SUV earlier this month is back in Bernalillo County and behind bars, and she’ll stay there for now.

Online records show Sara Mauter was booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center just before 6 p.m. Sunday. Authorities picked her up in the Phoenix area about two weeks ago.

Mauter’s bond was originally set for $1,000, but prosecutors filed for pretrial detention. That means she'll be held in jail without bond until the case is heard in district court.
