ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — One person is dead and another is injured after a shooting in southeast Albuquerque that police believe led to a serious car crash late Saturday night.

Neighbors nearby said it was a party gone wrong.

"I was down the road, at least like a couple houses down, I was at one of my friends’ houses and all we heard was a bunch of gunshots," neighbor Manuel Maestas said.

He said the entire street was blocked off when he tried to return home Sunday morning.

"They just asked us if we were doing anything wrong, or what happened, if we knew anything that was going on. I said 'I don't know,'" Maestas said.

Albuquerque police spokesperson Tanner Tixier said officers were initially dispatched to the 1300 block of Alamo, near University and Gibson, in response to a shooting. Neighbors said the neighborhood is quiet.

"Kinda sad that, you know, something bad would happen around here," Aaron Dixon, another neighbor, said. "For the most part, this is a peaceful neighborhood."

Police said that possible victims of the shooting tried to drive to the hospital. They got in a car crash at Central and Yale.

"When officers arrived at the accident they observed at least one subject who had been shot and was deceased," Tixier said.

Tixier also said that at least one other person involved in the crash was transported to the hospital.

Police have not released the names of those involved. Information is limited at this time.
