RIO RANCHO, N.M.- A suspected porch pirate is off the streets in Rio Rancho.

The man was seen on surveillance video stealing a package.

The homeowner gave that video to police, who then posted pictures of the thief on social media.

Police eventually acted on a tip, which led them to Phillip Wood.

He was arrested on an outstanding warrant and police plan to charge him with stealing packages from people's homes.

Rio Rancho Police Captain Andrew Rodriguez said the arrest may not have been possible without the help of the community.

“That's one of the differences between us and Albuquerque, we're a smaller community and everyone knows everyone,” Captain Rodriguez said. “They see someone suspicious on their block and they're going call and we're going to go check it out."

Police are still looking for other potential victims.

People who suspect a package was stolen from their home are encouraged to call the Rio Rancho Police Department.
