ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Spring is only a few days away, and the season's typical offerings arrived in big and, at times, damaging ways on Sunday.
Strong winds made their presence felt across the Duke City as the holiday weekend came to a close, knocking down trees in some parts of the metro. In southwest Albuquerque, strong gusts brought a tree down onto one man's home.
"I was surprised, I didn't think the tree would blow over so much," said homeowner Robert Curliss. "I thought maybe a few branches (would) break off, but not the whole tree."
Some local businesses also felt the punishing effects of the wind.
"The boys that rent from me over here came by and told me that the wind blew out their canopy over there and the powerline is down," said property owner Abel Cassidas. "We still have electricity, but it's still dangerous to be around this area here."
Over at Sandia Speedway, the weather conditions also yielded a dust storm that looked like something out of a movie.
