ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - United Blood Services says they are in urgent need for Type O blood donors as the blood supply is critically low.

According to United Blood Services, low donor activity over the summer months and summer activities have depleted their supply and as the United States faces hurricane season, they are asking for people to step up and donate.

Donors can give blood by making an appointment here or just by walking in to a clinic to donate.

Donors must be more than 110 pounds and over the age of 18. 16 and 17 year-olds may donate but have to have parental consent. Officials recommend that donors drink plenty of water and eat iron-rich foods in order to ensure a successful donation.
