Officers were called to the store on 98th and Gibson just after 6 p.m. Monday in reference to a hostage situation.

Police say 51-year-old Richard Balboa walked into the store and grabbed several items including a three-piece kitchen knife set, two ropes, tape, Jack Daniels and a Bud Light.

An employee told police Balboa then walked up to the alcohol counter and started to remove the knives from the packaging.

Police say the employee called a manager over and when she came over, Balboa grabbed her and put a knife to her neck. According to the complaint, Balboa then forced her to walk behind the counter and said: "the only way you're getting out alive is if I get to talk to a sergeant."

Police say SWAT was called and Balboa held the two hostage until the team entered to take him into custody.

Balboa was said to have been injured during the SWAT takedown and was taken to the hospital.
