ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- Yelp, a review website, is helping promote businesses during the pandemic.
The platform is allowing restaurants, like Joe's Pasta House in Rio Rancho, to host virtual events.
"I think I get a little emotional during the event because it was like being together again and that's the culture of our restaurants," said Kassie Guzzardi, co-owner of Joe's Pasta House.
The virtual events have taken the place of in-person special events.
"It's been an incredibly difficult, sad and painful. But I've also seen some sunny silver lining, business owners that understand that these people are trying and going to respond and spend their dollars locally instead of a franchise they see there's a lot of support out there," said Howie Kaibel of Yelp Albuquerque.
Kaibel said the virtual event's exposure is not just limited to New Mexicans. People from all over the country are able to check out what Albuquerque has to offer.
"We have had virtual events with all kinds of really great personalities," he said.
Guzzardi says someone from Buffalo, New York went to their Bruschetta Brunch, and is making a plan to visit the restaurant when it's safe.
"We want our doors open, we want people, everyone's welcome," she said.
