Alford recognized Weir's talents early on

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- Former UNM Head Coach Steve Alford has nothing but praise for the current Lobo head coach.


Alford was the head coach at Iowa when a young Paul Weir served as one of his assistants.

Alford said he knew Weir would eventually become a head coach.

He said he appreciates Weir’s mental approach to the game.

“Paul was always a deep thinker,” Alford said. “He was someone I always thought was going to learn the game, had a high level of intellect and I think he's done that.”

UNM will play Aflord’s Nevada Wolf Pack two times in the upcoming season.
