ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— It’s no surprise that Division I basketball programs recruit year-round. The Lobos are no different.

The Lobos have yet to play a game this season but their two big men, Carlton Bragg and Corey Manigault, are both seniors so the Lobos are looking to add to their roster.

“It's been going really, really well,” said Lobo head basketball coach Paul Weir. “We feel we're on the verge of some really big commitments that would catapult us in some big ways. We're still just kind of working on those and hopefully that will kind of help us continue to build our program.”

Lobo recruit Bayron Matos announced his commitment to the Lobos Saturday. The 6’9” Dominican Republic native is ranked as the No. 2 player in his country and ranked 25th by in the 2020 class.

Hispanic culture is important to the Lobo recruit. Matos said he is looking for a family atmosphere.

“I don't mind really going to school so I want to find this place [where] the classrooms good, all the teachers make me better every single day—that's what I'm looking for,” Matos said.
