ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —Former Lobo Jen Muñoz wrapped up her college career in 2019 with a long list of accolades including the first team all-Mountain West.

Since then, she’s began a career in the pros with one of the biggest clubs in Mexico.

“Really blessed obviously going to UNM and I think that my coaches Heather, Paul and Karley,  kind of lead the way to me being successful after,” she said.

After graduating, Muñoz debated whether she wanted to keep playing soccer or pursue another career.

A tryout in Los Angelez with Mexican league Club América ended up changing her life.

“So I decided to go just see what happens honestly and then the coach came up to me after and said, ‘I can see you playing in this league. It's a big step. Think about it,’ and I did and it was out of my comfort zone, but I was like, I'm glad I did it,” she said.

Muñoz’s rookie season was a huge success, so much so that she was invited to play with the Mexican national team.

Shortly afterwards, COVID-19 shut everything down. Even with the season cut short, Muñoz plans to keep repping UNM at the next level.

“I've always been really proud to be a Lobo. I feel like I've definitely grown into the person that I am through that program. I feel like I'm always there for the girls even though now that I've graduated, I still text a lot of them before games and stuff like that because I know I would want that if I was still playing with the Lobos and stuff, but it means so much because I always feel like Albuquerque is like my second home even though I'm from California. I feel really comfortable going back to Albuquerque,” she said.

Muñoz recently spent the last few months in Albuquerque, but is now back in Mexico City.

She said the Mexican leagues are aiming to get back on the field by July 24.
