ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - A good linebacker knows how to be productive and step ahead.
UNM's Alex Hart has done that for the Lobos even during times when he was not on the field.
Hart suffered a season-ending knee injury last year.
As he watched the rest of the game with crutches, there was no guarantee he would play again.
"It was a wake up call not only to football and to school to but I felt that I had a responsibility as a captain when I was here to be here for these guys and to step up even though I'm injured I've got my own things to worry about," Hart said.
Hart is back with the Lobos this season and better than ever.
He is making the most of his final season as one of the top tacklers on the team.
Hart is also just as productive in the classroom.
"Got my undergrad last fall. My BBA in business administration. I'm getting my MBA in business administration with a concentration in organizational behavior and human resource," he said.
The future MBA from Minnesota will carry that work ethic into life after his football career is over.
"Once I find what I like and what fits me I'd like to be a manager for that or be an owner or a consultant or something of that nature, you know, help provide guidance for people to help make a company better," he said.
