ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Since the start of Lobo football camp, there has been a noticeable absence – quarterback Tevaka Tuioti. He got back on the field Monday.
It's a moment Tuioti and the entire team were ready for.
"It was a crazy experience for me," he said. "I feel like it was my first day in college again."
Tuioti missed the last week and a half attending to an ill family member in California. When the situation came up, the Lobos gave Tuioti full support to stay home.
"Family is always the first thing, and you know, for them to say that I could take the time off, it was a blessing," Tuioti said. "Being able to get phone calls and text messages from my teammates, it meant a lot."
Head coach Bob Davie said it was good to have him back.
"I asked him if he wanted to say something to the team, and he really didn't, but the team applauded him in the team meeting this morning at 8 o'clock," Davie said.
"With something tough like family, you know, take your time and when you come back, we're going to be here," said teammate Teton Saltes. "Now that he's back, it feels good, energy is up."
With the season opener 19 days away, the quarterback competition just went up a notch.
For Tuioti, he's just happy to be back with his brothers.
