ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- A talented New Mexico baseball player will pitch for the Washington Nationals.
Mitchell Parker's was selected by the Nationals in the 5th round of the MLB Draft.
He says putting that Nationals hat on was a special moment.
"It was definitely awesome," Parker said. "Between me and my parents, it definitely felt like there was a weight taken off our shoulders. Kind of a big stress relief. Definitely awesome."
Out of high school, Parker signed with Tennessee. After his freshman year, he transferred to San Jacinto Junior College and then he was picked by the Nationals.
"Kind of the same day they weren't really one of the ones there we were thinking about right out of the gate," Parker said. "As the day went on, we definitely figured that out between last year and this year at San Jacinto, they were able to see me throw. Luckily, they saw me throw some of the good games that I had."
