ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico United is approaching the halfway point of the season and two players are back this week after stints with national teams.

Amando Moreno returned to the black and yellow after playing with El Salvador in the Gold Cup.

"A tournament can change my mentality of how I can be better and how I can improve myself, so that’s pretty much it for me and just the opportunities that I got definitely made me better," said Moreno.

The team welcomed the two returning players.

"We missed him in those five matches for sure, but he’s picked right back up into the point he just made I think the experience he had with El Salvador against Mexico, Qatar these types of matches are high-level matches," said Troy Lesesne, head coach.

David Najem also rejoined United midseason after spending most of 2021 with the Afghanistan national team. Now he’s back in Albuquerque, ready to help the team build on the success they had in 2020.

"Felt a little surreal getting back into the routine with the guys, but once the rhythm and routine of freedom and game starts it’s gonna be like it was last year," said Najem.

Najem and Moreno hope to get on the pitch this weekend.

United hits the road to play Tacoma for a match on Sunday.
