ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- The Mountain West Conference wants to have a 20-game conference schedule by the 2022-2023 season.

"From my perspective, if we're already doing that, why not just make it a conference appointment? Why not make it a true league schedule," UNM Head Basketball Coach told KOB 4's Lee Faria.

The commissioner of the Mountain West Conference believes every team in the conference should be able to host a game against their conference opponent.

However, Mike Bradbury, head coach of the UNM women's basketball team, is in favor of dropping conference games, not adding them.

He says a 20-game schedule would make it difficult to get into the tournament.

"If you want a true conference champion, then you play 20," Bradbury said. "If you want to get multiple teams in the NCAA tournament then you play 14. The least amount you can play is always beneficial to your RPI."
