New Mexico United defender Justin Schmidt to join US Army

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico United on Tuesday announced defender Justin Schmidt will be transitioning from the team to the United States Armed Forces.

Schmidt will be joining the U.S. Army and will be starting his service immediately.

Schmidt has played for United since the club’s first match in 2019. He played in 60 matches and scored twice, each in 2019 against Fresno and Phoenix Rising.

Before Schmidt joined United, he also played for Real Salt Lake/Real Monarchs before joining Sacramento Republic FC in 2018.
