ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- Due to ban on mass gatherings in the state, New Mexico United announced Monday that it will play its Aug. 8 game against Phoenix Rising FC in Arizona.
“New Mexico United is going to do everything we can to provide a sense of relief and normalcy for New Mexicans by playing the beautiful game of soccer,” said Peter Trevisani, Owner and CEO of New Mexico United. “We have a commitment to New Mexicans to return to safe play this year and bring a cup back to our state.”
At this rate, United's current four-game road stretch may be extended for a long period of time, possibly even all season.
Head Coach Troy Lesesne is not allowing his team to be distracted or discouraged by additional road games.
"'Let's embrace this time and not look for any excuses," he said. "There's plenty of excuses we can all look to right now and grab it and feel like OK we can rationalize. We're not going to rationalize."
Kickoff for the game is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
