ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- New Mexico United participated in a blood drive in Albuquerque Tuesday.

"Giving blood is important any time of the year, but I think particularly in this crisis where there's a shortage of blood -- this is an ability for us to come together," said Peter Trevisani, CEO and owner of New Mexico United.

State health officials are encouraging people to give blood during the coronavirus crisis.

Mario Armijo heard the call. Tuesday was the first time he had ever donated blood.

"I think it's important, because I'm not a healthcare professional, so I feel this is my way of being able to contribute to help other people, and just do my part," he said.
