ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- New Mexico United returns to action Friday night. The team will take on El Paso Locomotive.
Through two matches, United is in second place-- just one point out of the top spot in Group C.
Picking up points in their first two matches was critical to building early momentum.
"Really enjoy the moment of being out there with the team and I think but then good job with our mindset from training to games," said Devon Sandoval.
United has scored first in each of the first two matches.
Defensive lapses have allowed teams back in the match, including last week when El Paso scored two goals in a matter minutes.
"We get caught in possession or making weird decisions sometimes and I think in that moment, it's best to recognize you know maybe we need to clear the ball clear the lines and go back to high-pressure where we were finding success," said Austin Yearwood.
After earning a draw last week against Locomotive FC, United expects another competitive match.
"It was a 2-2 game, and we know they're gonna play similar going in Friday," said Andrew Tinari. "We're gonna play just as similar as well and keep going at them and pressuring them."
Kickoff for Friday's game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
