ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- Nick Gonzales, who played baseball at New Mexico State University, was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the MLB draft.

In 2019, Gonzales made a name for himself by hitting .432 with 16 home runs and 80 RBIs. In the summer of 2019, he was the MVP of the Cape Cod League, and in the shortened 2020 season, he was leading the NCAA in batting average at .448 and home runs.

"I haven't played in a few months," Gonzales said. " I'm just super excited to do that and develop as a player with professional coaching and professional players around me, so that's really exciting for me and just go out there and develop."
