ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- Danny Gonzales is preparing his team for anything.

The UNM football team's season opener is scheduled for Aug. 29, but the Lobos have decided to not open training camp on July 31.

In the meantime, they are hitting the weights and having walk-through sessions in small groups.

Other team activities are done while practicing social distancing.

"If we wanted to have a team meeting in person, we could we have not yet because I don't think it's been necessary," Gonzales said. "The way we're bringing the guys in-- staggered in groups. We never have the entire football team on campus at one time, and we've gotten really accustom to the Zoom meetings."

Gonzales said he has a zero tolerance policy for players who gather in big groups.

"One of our football players has a party, he won't be on the football team anymore because that's not what we're doing right now to keep each other safe and it just doesn't just keep each other safe," Gonzales said.
